We're starting a new series of blog posts where we track the winning round of the past weekend's PGA Tour event. In our second post, we're taking a look at Nick Taylor's 70 at a windy Pebble Beach that held off Phil Mickelson.
You can see the tracked round here in the Wasted Shots app:
We assumed that Nick had a rough goal of shooting 68 at the par 72 track. That meant he needed to gain 4 shots overall, so we set his subgoals for him to gain those shots in the approach, scrambling, and makeable putts subcategories. Here's how he did...
* He achieved his goal on long shots
* Nick achieved his approach game goal, even though it sometimes left him in some unfavorable spots. It was also sometimes magical like his great shot on 17 and this (somewhat lucky) one to wrap up the front...
* Nick seemed to want to avoid taking makeable putts with a few wizard-like scrambling shots. This one gave him an early eagle and a comfortable lead...
This chip in on 15, fresh off of a double on 14, basically sealed the win...
Still, he was +4 on the scrambling subgoal, but it wasn't bad in those conditions.
* He eclipsed his makeable putts sub goal, but still left a few out there on the tough Pebble Beach greens.
But all in all, -2 70 was enough to get Nick Taylor his second career win. Congrats Nick!
